Four Hands, One Piano

A musical journey from intimate dialogue to a grand sonic experience:

Inspired by tales of the Orient, Robert Schumann's Pictures from the East (Bilder aus Osten) unfolds in a series of poetic and evocative musical conversations. Cécile Chaminade, one of the most celebrated female composers of her era, transports listeners to the elegant salons of Paris with her Six Pièces Romantiques, where music was both a social pastime and an art form. The atmosphere then turns vibrant and spirited with Moritz Moszkowski’s Spanish Dances, whose fiery rhythms and hints of castanets conjure the sound and color of Spain. Emmanuel Chabrier’s Cortège burlesque, a whimsical carnival procession filled with surprises and humorous twists, brings a smile to the audience. The program concludes with Ernst von Dohnányi’s Waltz, Op. 3, a graceful and energetic work that pays tribute to Vienna’s rich dance tradition.

The Crypt is pleasantly temperature-controlled throughout the year.
