On the fifth evening of the 2027 Vienna Cabaret Festival, Gery Seidl takes the audience on a stroll through his mind—to the place where mundane observations turn into big questions.

When Gery Seidl studies with his daughter for school, it quickly becomes clear: The school system apparently hasn’t learned anything since his own school days—which is actually reassuring, a constant, while everything else changes: technology, society, prices, menus, genders, the body. That’s why we do CrossFit—so we don’t disappoint our reflection on the way to the patio with its patio heater—while the dog lies right next to us, looking at us adoringly and just wanting to be a dog—a true role model. With his new program “NIX is NIE,” Seidl asks whether everything really was better back then, or whether “back then” simply refers to whenever “today” becomes too much of a hassle. Does something really always have to be going on? Does life have to constantly deliver something?

Highlights

Between the CrossFit studio and the dog on the patio, between self-improvement and the desire to simply be, Gery Seidl unfolds his very own perspective on everyday life. Wit and words coexist in him—controversially, yet lovingly—an evening for everyone who has ever wondered whether there really always has to be something going on, and who is ready to let their “stage self” accompany them on this stroll through seemingly mundane observations.
