Musical satire meets verbal acrobatics: On the third evening of the 2027 Vienna Cabaret Festival, two exceptional artists will demonstrate just how much language and music can achieve when used properly.
Christof Spörk returns to his roots with “Maximo Lieder”: Back in 2001, the political scientist with a Ph.D. and jazz singer founded an Austro-Cuban project of the same name, a musical-satirical allusion to the “rock star” among strongmen, the long-deceased “Máximo Líder” Fidel Castro. Instead of songs about home or love, Spörk sings about noise barriers, industrial parks, and snow cannons—always in the hope that the country will stop defacing itself—and about the renaissance of intellectually modest yet vociferous leaders whom one really shouldn’t trust with a dog. Afterward, Willy Astor takes the stage: To mark his 40th anniversary on stage, the wordsmith and musical comedian presents a crisp “best-of” selection from his repertoire, garnished with fresh material from his new show.
Special Features
Willy Astor is regarded as an excellent guitarist and wordsmith with a unique selling point that extends far beyond the German comedy scene—a one-man musical entertainer through and through, whose versatility has been delighting audiences for decades. Combined with Christof Spörks’ biting, musical observations on politics, birds, and world history, this evening will be a true pick-me-up for anyone in need of a laugh. Two completely different styles, one shared promise: “Liedership” instead of “Leadership.” An evening that proves that wordplay and musical cabaret harmonize perfectly on the same stage.
