A Muslim, a Christian, and a Jew—Eran Shakine

Born in 1962, Israeli artist Eran Shakine humorously explores the similarities and differences among the three monotheistic world religions in his large-scale works. Join him and the three gentlemen in top hats—a Muslim, a Christian, and a Jew—on a tour of the exhibition, for a conversation with Moses or a session with Dr. Freud. Anyone who’d like to can paint and draw their own creations to help design a “Wall of Tolerance” as part of the exhibition.

The last two thousand years of Jewish history are the history of a minority community. As the social and political structure of Viennese society changed, so too did the opportunities for Jews to integrate into the city. Caught between acceptance, tolerance, and rejection, Jews then as now have had to negotiate their place in Vienna. Let’s take a look at how the status of Jews in Vienna has changed over time, how this relates to Zionism, and what different perspectives Israelis have on this topic.
