In France 100 years ago: Two small villages have been feuding for generations, though no one really knows exactly why anymore. The adults are too busy with farm work and the tavern, so it’s the children who carry on the feud. They regularly run into each other in the woods and get into fights. Little by little, getting along seems to become more important than fighting. When a final confrontation arises, however, the fun adventure threatens to turn into a bitterly serious affair.

*The War of the Buttons*, a novel by Louis Pergaud, was a huge success and, at least since its 1962 film adaptation, has been an integral part of French identity, as well as a classic of children’s literature beyond France’s borders. This adventure story is about friendship and enmity, winning and losing, and children both young and old. Johanna Arrouas brings the story to life with plenty of wit and heartfelt emotion in her own stage adaptation. French chansons accompany this humorous and lively performance for the whole family.
