Hungry and far away from their parents, Hansel and Gretel wake up in the forest. Suddenly, they discover a house made entirely of gingerbread! But inside lives the wicked Gingerbread Witch, who has her sights set on the children. “Crunch, crunch, little one, who’s crunching at my little house?” Can Gretel still save her brother?

 

Karl Dönch’s production of Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairy-tale opera has lost none of its charm over the years! This indispensable classic in the Volksoper’s repertoire never fails to delight, complete with the witch’s flight over the orchestra pit.
