Kabarett - Christof Spörk – Maximo Lieder - Casanova - Wien - 2027

CasaNova Vienna, Wien

Christof Spörk has written many songs. And he knows a thing or two about what it’s like to live in the most beautiful country of latent dissatisfaction—pardon me—in the most dissatisfied country of latent beauty. Others may churn out sappy songs about home or love. So far, Spörk has tended to sing about noise barriers, industrial parks, or snow cannons—always in the hope that his singing might stop them from spoiling the landscape. Spörk’s songs always celebrate life, even when life itself is often unkind.

With “Maximo Lieder,” Spörk—who holds a doctorate in political science and is a self-proclaimed jazz singer—returns to his roots. Back in 2001, he founded an Austro-Cuban project called “Maximo Lieder,” a musical-satirical allusion to the rock star among strongmen—the long-deceased “Máximo Líder” Fidel Castro, may Karl Marx rest his soul! Back then, even the ORF was convinced that the era of strong leaders and dictators was over. That’s why Karl Moik had to go. Paradise seemed within reach. But far from it. Shivering and astonished, we’re currently witnessing a renaissance of men who are just as “strong” as they are intellectually modest—men to whom you’d actually be better off not entrusting a dog. Though, most of them love their dog more than their country anyway.

It’s not just dog owners who feel like they’re in the wrong century right now. Even the famous bird—which every eligible voter is entitled to call their own—is on the verge of dying out in many minds. Probably because they’re not feeding it right.
Too much of everything. Not enough to eat. Smartphones may be more convenient than newspapers. But unlike Homo sapiens, birds don’t like to eat hot air or alternative facts. There should always be at least a little grain (of truth) on hand. For the birds, that is.

But please don’t worry: “Maximo Lieder” Spörk doesn’t offer any hasty answers. He might, however, ask some of the right questions. Does world history belong to the ruminant species? If so, are we history-writing humans more like goats or sheep, as a major world religion claims? Or: why do we expect kindergarten teachers to be good people but hold the same standard against female politicians? Why are assholes in men’s bodies admired as assertive? Yes, why on earth do we let self-proclaimed idiots show us up day after day? Are we perhaps on a collective sales pitch for AI? And why does a missing “i” turn the most beautiful of all arts—MUSIC—into a spiritually neglected, destitute multimillionaire who thinks he has to save the world?
Starting in January 2026 and from then on, time and again: Maximo Lieder!
Because what the world needs right now is: Liedership!
