Info

Listen to Anton Bruckner's Mass in D minor and his Locus Iste on the 200th anniversary of his birth in St Stephen's Cathedral.

Bruckner's 1st Mass is often described as his first true masterpiece and key work, which made him one of the few composers who further developed the symphony after Beethoven and Schubert and had a decisive influence on the music of the 20th century. Bruckner achieved a breakthrough with this composition; the performance was a great success with both critics and audiences. A laudatory review in the Linzer Zeitung described Bruckner's potential as a symphonic composer and classified the Mass in D minor in the highest echelon of sacred music.

Under the direction of Gerald Wirth, President and Artistic Director of the Vienna Boys' Choir, the masterpiece will be intensively worked on by choir singers from around the world in several workshops as part of the Sing Along! Choir Festival. The crowning finale is the performance with renowned soloists and the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra in St. Stephen's Cathedral.
