Even as a teenager, Steinbäcker gained his first stage experience in various Styrian rock bands. In the late 1960s, he was the lead singer of the band “Mephisto,” and later pursued other musical projects. In 1978, together with Günter Timischl and Helmut “Schiffkowitz” Röhrling, he founded the band S.T.S., which remained one of Austria’s most successful and popular bands for decades.

In addition to his work with S.T.S., Steinbäcker has always pursued a successful solo career. Since the 1990s, he has released several solo albums that focus on his personal stories, observations, and reflections on society. His songs are characterized by poetic lyrics, authenticity, and an unmistakable voice.

To this day, Gert Steinbäcker stands for honest, handcrafted music and is considered one of Austria’s most significant singer-songwriters. With his concerts, he captivates audiences across generations who appreciate his genuine style and timeless songs.
