In "BODY WORLDS - On the Pulse of Time", exhibition organizer Dr. Angelina Whalley shows the human body in many facets and illustrates its great potential, but also its vulnerability in the face of the challenges it has to overcome in the 21st century.
"The theme On the Pulse of Time is a reflection on the speed of modern life and its impact on our bodies and our health. With this exhibition, I want to make it clear that the body is the mirror of our own lifestyle. Because everything we do or don't do - whether we are physically active, how we eat, whether we are constantly under stress, whether we have a healthy family or social environment - everything has an effect on it, both positive and negative," says the curator, describing the idea behind the exhibition. In addition to explanations on nutrition, exercise and strengthening the immune system, the exhibition shows how a healthy and long life can be achieved in today's world. All the specimens shown in the exhibition are real. They come from people who, during their lifetime, gave instructions that their bodies should be available for the education of doctors and interested laypeople after their death.
With the BODY WORLDS, internationally known as BODY WORLDS: The Original Exhibition of Real Human Bodies, Dr. Gunther von Hagens and Dr. Angelina Whalley have made the first anatomical exhibitions of real human specimens accessible to the general public. The popular science exhibition illustrates the structure of the inside of the human body and shows the structure and function of the various body systems. It thus demonstrably makes an important contribution to health education. The specimens on display have been preserved using the plastination process - a preservation method invented by the physician and scientist Dr. von Hagens in 1977. Since the exhibition series began in Japan in 1995, more than 57 million visitors in over 40 countries and more than 170 cities - in Europe, America, Asia, Oceania and South Africa - have seen the world's most successful special exhibition to date.
