Info
Spring Awakening is a rousing rock musical about the challenges of growing up, failing communication between generations and the rifts and upheavals that always accompany awakening sexuality - regardless of the era. Winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a Grammy, it has revolutionized the way Broadway plays are thought about and what themes musicals can address.
Germany, 1891: A group of young people come up against the limits of a strictly regimented adult world. Wendla begins to discover her body, but her mother refuses to enlighten her. Melchior defends his friend Moritz, who is overwhelmed by school and puberty. As Wendla and Melchior get closer, they have no idea of the consequences of their desire...
Based on Frank Wedekind's 1891 play Spring Awakening, this rock musical deals with social morality while also shedding light on sexuality and repression. Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik worked on their adaptation for seven years. Together with young people, they developed a work that sheds light on its themes from a diverse, young perspective. Because even if we think of ourselves as more enlightened today, adolescents still struggle with the countless worries, fears and hardships of puberty. The rousing songs delve deep into the thoughts and feelings of the characters.
